Education++ was my brainchild from first year. Around that time I started getting heavily invested in gamification and the various ways it could be applied to education. The idea was that if we can incentivize learning by providing immediate results, we can motivate certain students to work harder in the classroom. We created a Moodle plugin that allowed students to earn points based on their performance on tests and quizzes. Higher grades meant higher points. The points acted as a currency that allowed students to purchase bonuses assigned by the professor. Bonuses could include perks like dropping the lowest quiz, extra percentage points on tests, and so on. Points could also be used to purchase a one-time badge for an enrolled course that could be displayed in a student’s profile.
